Sex and Hypnosis

A problem with sexual performance is one of those areas of life that people are often happy to sweep under the carpet. Often sex is too personal to discuss with others, especially when things go wrong. However the use of hypnosis in sexual therapy has some major advantages. The key benefit for many people is that hypnotic therapy can be used in the treatment of an individual without the need for their partner to be present, or without ever even knowing. This one key point is often the greatest barrier for people seeking help. Hypnosis also permits the rapid identification of intervening factors beyond conscious awareness, for instance an early traumatic sexual experience. Once exposed this past trauma can be resolved and healed through hypnosis.

A dysfunction is often a means of protecting against a fear, (such as fear of losing a partner), or an expression of anger towards your partner, or maybe even a form of self punishment for past misdeeds. One way that a patient can help themselves is to learn self hypnosis. This can provide a sense of control, and the relaxation can greatly reduce the physical and mental fatigue which is often a contributory factor to sexual dysfunction.

To help you relax quickly and easily before bedtime, just follow these instructions. 1. Take two deep breaths, hold each one for 2 seconds and then release the breath as slowly as possible, feeling stress and tension leaving your body.
2. Imagine a wave of relaxation rushing through your body, from the top of your head right through to the tips of your toes. Then imagine this wave once again rushing through your body, from your toes to the top of your head.
3. Now slow this wave of relaxation down. Starting at your head let each part of your body relax gently, slowly and comfortably. Take as long as you like over this. Feel, picture and imagine every single muscle in your entire body becoming loose and relaxed.
4. Once you have done this, and if you are still awake, return your focus to your breathing. Do not change your breathing in any way, shape or form, but just allow it to flow naturally. On each outward breath say to yourself very gently the word “relax”. On each outward breath think that one word “relax”. As you do feel the tension, anxiety and stress of your life melting away from your body.
5. Enjoy this pleasantly relaxed, comfortable sensation for as long as you feel necessary.

And that really is it. What you need to do now is practise this technique, and, over time, you will find that your body and mind are conditioned to become deeply relaxed just by concentrating on your breathing and thinking the word “relax”.

This is a very useful exercise not just to help you overcome any anxiety regarding sexual dysfunction, but to help relieve stress in all parts of your life. www.sexwithhypnosis Mark Boardman BSc dip.hyp is a leading author and expert on Hypnosis.
